Watch the Sunset

Sunset Park - Ka'dai

Here's a way to spend a couple of quiet hours on the other side of the island in a beautiful spot.

Picturesque tropical sunsets over the Philippine Sea, served up daily - all year round.

In Yap two things are huge, the sky and the sea... when the two come together with the setting sun, its a colorful visual experience.

Purple, blue, pink and orange skies turn starlit black with only the sound of wind and waves in the distance. It's a very peaceful place to end your Yap day.

Getting There

It's a $4 taxi ride from Colonia to Sunset Park in Ka'dai.

You can ask your hotel front desk to coordinate with the village and call you a taxi, or provide transportation for your group.

The Ka'dai community center phone number is: 350-8000.

It's private land and customary in the village to walk in small group or pairs, quietly, while carrying a leaf.

The park is available from sunrise to sunset for visitors, swimming, BBQs or just hanging out watching the sunset.

All you do is call the Ka'dai Community Center and let somebody know that you want to visit the park, how many guests and at what time. If you want to spend the day, swim and BBQ, t's best to make this request in advance, one day if possible, that way the bathrooms will be unlocked and showers turned on when you arrive.

Cost: $3 to spend some time at sunset or $5 to swim and spend the day, per person.

A seawall with tables and benches, hammocks and seating overlooks the Philippine Sea lagoon.

At the park, all you hear are the waves, the wind and birds in the forest.

You can burn coconut husk or bring a mosquito coil to keep some unwanted flyers away.

Sunset

This is where you'll get the textbook tropical sunset photo for your vacation gallery.

Light fades in a bouquet of color and clouds on the horizon.

Tips:

  • Tell your cab driver what you're plan is and arrange for your ride back to town when you're done
  • Call the community center office the morning of to see the sunset or the day before for a group reservation for swimming and BBQs.
